Jugaad/ Frugal Innovation
Jugaad is a Hindi word that roughly translates to "frugal innovation" or "hack." It refers to the ability to find creative and resourceful solutions to problems, often using limited resources. Jugaad is a mindset that is deeply ingrained in Indian culture, and it has been credited with helping India to overcome many challenges and achieve remarkable progress.
Jugaad solutions are often simple and low-cost, but they can be very effective. For example, a jugaad solution to the problem of how to keep food cold in hot climates might be to use a clay pot wrapped in a wet cloth. This simple device can keep food cool for hours, even in the absence of electricity.
Jugaad is not just about finding quick fixes. It is also about being creative and resourceful in the long term.
